It’s been a busy and successful year! In addition to getting certified as a massage therapist, I have been diving deep into the world of Track and Field. After competing last year in D10’s “Decathlon”, I found the desire to compete in multiple Track and Field events. Luckily I discovered that Los Gatos hosts a set of 8 track meets in the winter AND the 8 meets in the summer! I am so happy to have such quality competitions just a few miles away. While I trained hard to reach my full potential, I am also using this experience to learn more about how the body works in athletics. I even got certified as a Track and Field Coach from USA Track and Field. To top it all off, my massage internship was with the DeAnza Track Team where I had the opportunity to perform much needed treatments to athletes during meets.
Here’s my personal best marks this year for all the events I did: 100m: 12.53 200m: 26.00 400m: 62.12 1500m: 5:40 Discus: 103’ Shot Put: 36’ 5’ Long Jump: 14’ 8” Not bad for a halfway old guy, right? I know most of these numbers mean nothing so here’s a little perspective and quick facts: I finish near the end of the pack when I sprint against the high school kids, 1500m is 100m short of a mile, the shot is a 16lb ball, discus is 4.4lbs(2k), and long jump was the first since I was 13 so definitely out of practice there. Training is challenging yet fun and the results of competing again is very rewarding, even if it’s at a local level. Anyone interested in training with me for next year’s meets??
