Professional Experience
Jerry started working as a full-time personal trainer in 2003 while attending Arizona State University. After graduating and getting a solid understanding of personal training and the fitness business, he started Breakthrough Personal Training in 2007, now JY Fitness. A couple years later he moved back to the Bay Area to further his education in the health sciences and continue helping people improve their health and fitness. He has dedicated 20 years to teaching proper exercise technique, injury management, nutrition, fitness programs, and performing body work.
Jerry has practical experience helping nearly all populations with their health and fitness goals. This includes working with client’s chronic injuries, keeping athletes healthy for competition, fitness for seniors, those with weight loss goals, and those seeking improvements in strength and performance.
He has shadowed multiple chiropractors over years for educational purposes and specific massage techniques to aid in recovery from injury. After seeing the powerful benefits of combining massage and exercise, he started including massage as a part of his training to accelerate client’s results.

A Passion for Fitness
I grew up in the Santa Cruz Mountains where I enjoyed a very active outdoor lifestyle and a constant involvement in various sports. As a multiple sport athlete, I loved being able to play football in the fall, wrestling in the winter, and track and field in the spring. I enjoyed a respectable amount of success in sports, most of it in wrestling. Although I do like competition, I always loved the daily training each sport demanded in order to be ready for games, matches, and meets. To this day, I still have a passion for the training it takes to be in top condition. I have gone through many “phases” of training in the past. For years I loved the gym lifestyle and what some call “recreational bodybuilding”. Later, I rediscovered my love for running and began doing half marathons and 10k’s. This eventually lead to competing in masters Track and Field.
Today health and fitness is a part of my life more than ever. I maintain a rigorous training schedule, practice proper nutrition, implement rest and recovery, and surround myself with others who enjoy an active lifestyle. My wife, Jessica, is a ballet dancer and together we enjoy living an active and healthy lifestyle. We, like all people, also like to have fun eating great food and having a drink now and then. I look forward to meeting new people from all walks of life and sharing my passion. I want everyone to experience the incredible benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle.”
