Massage: Release tight muscles and trigger points for better alignment.
When I have a client experiencing pain, I usually start their session on the massage table to lengthen tight muscles and reduce trigger point pain. Trigger points are “knots” in the muscles that radiate pain. For low back issues, certain muscles in the low back and gluteal region commonly have these issues. It is very important to “release” these areas especially if they are causing pain and to improve alignment the pelvis if needed.
Corrective Exercise: Getting reacquainted with weak muscles and practice quality movements.
Low back pain is often accompanied by weakness in the gluteal muscles. General “core” weakness is also very common which can decrease spine stability. It’s important that you do the right exercises to “wake up” these muscles and get reacquainted with them. These exercises should never cause pain.
Once you are able to activate these muscles, the next step is to use them during quality movements. You do these without any additional weight to perform basic, but important foundational movements. We will teach you how to properly hip hinge, squat, and turn while protecting your low back.
Fitness exercises: Integrate weighted and full body exercises.
Our goal is for you to do full body exercises that will increase strength, allowing you to better perform your daily or athletic activities without causing pain. This will improve your confidence in doing these activities and reduce unnecessary worry of getting injured again.
