Education in 2015 and In Progress Certifications
Regarded as one of the best, if not the absolute best, certification a trainer can get. Although it’s ultimate focus is to properly train athletes at any level, it is held in high regard because of its extensive scientific background and research based concepts. Much of the techniques and concepts for training high level athletes translates into effective programs for the average person when properly adjusted. This certification gives the trainer or coach a deep scientific understanding of the body in response to exercise. This results in finely tuned programs for my clients in non-competitive sports as well as the ability to train athletes at any level.
A certification I have wanted for some time now, it focuses on fitness for women in the pre and postnatal stages, pre and postmenopausal years, adolescents, and the anatomical differences that need to be considered when building a fitness program for women. Although fitness programs first need to be built upon the client’s goals and abilities, these specific populations need some additional components and considerations for an optimally successful program.
Yes, DeAnza has a massage program! I am currently working on my 500 hour massage certification which I expect to be completed in early 2017. I completed “Introduction to Massage” last Spring where I learned the basics like proper draping, effleurage (light, relaxation massage), various stroke and soft tissue manipulation techniques, and pretrissage (medium pressure massage) techniques. I have 100 hours down and although this program takes longer to complete, it allows me to continue training my clients without much interruption.
In the meantime I am practicing on friends and family. I also have a great mentor here at the studio, Dominique, to show me techniques when he works on my family members. He is the best therapist/chiropractor that has worked on me and I am honored to be learning from him.
I’m finally about 95% healed up from all past injuries and nearly at full capacity for my workouts. I am back to running twice a week, hitting the weights hard four times a week, and doing one day of other physical activities. Usually this involves yardwork: digging, hauling branches, chopping wood, and trimming bushes. All that fun stuff that apparently only I consider fun.
I am excited to get back to working on my ultimate body composition goals while maintaining great endurance and athleticism.
I moved from the Santa Cruz Mountains to Campbell in a spacious apartment with my lovely girlfriend, Jessica. It is great to have our own place in a town that we are quite fond of.
So that’s about it for me. Training my clients, training myself, studying, and spending the rest of my time with family and friends.
